How the FBI Background Check Apostille Works
We handle the whole process, from fingerprints to finished apostille.

2. Get Fingerprinted

5. We Prepare and Submit
FBI results go to the U.S. Department of State; state documents go to the issuing state.
3. Retrieve Your Background Report
Follow the FBI Channeler's instructions to download your PDF report, usually within 24 to 48 hours.
6. Your Apostille is Delivered
Completed apostilles typically take 2 to 4 weeks and can be mailed to you or picked up at our Albuquerque main office.
Birth Certificate and State Document Apostilles
Birth certificates, marriage certificates, divorce decrees, and other state-issued records are apostilled by the Secretary of State in the state that issued them. Documents from New Mexico go to the New Mexico Secretary of State. We also help with documents issued in other states. What is the difference between a state apostille and an FBI apostille?
A state apostille certifies documents issued by a state, such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, or divorce decrees. An FBI apostille certifies your FBI Identity History Summary, which must first be obtained through an authorized FBI Channeler. ABQ Fingerprinting submits your fingerprints through one, and Enchantment Notary Services prepares and submits the apostille for both types.
Do I need an apostille on my FBI background check for immigration?
Often, yes. Many foreign governments and embassies require an apostilled FBI background check for long-term visas, permanent residency, international adoption, and overseas employment. We handle the fingerprinting and the apostille from a single point of contact.
What is the difference between an apostille and an authentication?
An apostille is accepted by countries that belong to the Hague Apostille Convention. An authentication is required for countries that don't. We'll confirm which one you need based on your destination country.
